Over 4,000 AG Neovo displays at 65 ROCvA sites helping to teach, train and certify the youth of Holland.

At a Glance - Wisdom While You Work
At Amsterdam Regional Community College (ROCvA), over 450 specialised programmes teach valuable skills to Amsterdam's youth, both in and out of the classroom. Using a strong school environment, creative partnerships and a hint of technology - featuring AG Neovo displays - ROCvA is preparing Amsterdam's youth for a prosperous career ahead.

The Environment - Vocational Education and Training
Established in 1997, the ROCvA is one of the largest colleges in Europe, and focuses on vocational education and training for over 35,000 youths between the ages of 12 and 18 as well as young adult students. This is a critical age group, as half of the 38,000 people under 23 years registered as out of work have no educational qualifications. In addition, about another 35,000 young people are unemployed but not registered with the CWI.

The Opportunity - Designed with Education in Mind
By offering over 450 specialised programmes with many more opening every year at its 64 locations, the college provides a path for nearly any career a student could desire. The ROCvA has reached out beyond traditional methods to find innovative ways to inspire and support its students as well. For example, the ROCvA opened eight "master classes" featuring famous, popular national celebrities. The ROCvA also has strategic relations with Amsterdam's top companies to set-up reputable training and career path programmes.

The Solution - Taming Students with Technology
In addition to these initiatives, ROCvA has another tried and true method to attract and maintain students: technology. The college has its own dedicated free Internet server accessible from almost anywhere at its schools through over 9,000 PCs. A noteworthy feature of this system are the AG Neovo displays installed on over 4,000 of these public-use PCs. Fred de Smit, IT System Director, recalls when the college first purchased the displays in 2003. "The AG Neovo's were the only displays available on the market with the hard glass. We knew we needed this type of protection on the displays from the sheer volume of students who would be using them. The AG Neovo displays had quality images as well as a nice look."

The Result - The Fruits of Education and Labour
The creative ways with which the ROCvA has dealt with student issues has begun to bear fruit. From 2001 to 2006 traineeships absenteeism has dropped by over 50%. "We believe in combining study with hands-on training in the workplace, and we also believe quality training also deserves quality facilities," says ROCvA spokesperson Eric Baars. AG Neovo displays had several unexpected effects. "When we first installed them, they looked so good that some students tried to steal them. Fortunately we had them securely mounted and bolted down," explains de Smit. "We also noticed the look of the displays were affecting the students another way. Because the rooms looked more professional and orderly, the students, especially the young ones, would behave more properly and keep the classrooms clean. No one expected this, but everyone is very pleased."
